I have friends who are having (or recently had) babies and I'm feeling the fever. Baby knitting is like crack! It only takes a few days and 1-2 skeins of pretty, soft, washable yarn to do. And if you're lucky, there's minimal finishing and super-cute buttons involved.
I've been buying baby patterns like my life depended on it, and I have a bad habit of only knitting them once. I'm hoping to find a few that I can knit over and over (like the Yoked Cardigan which I've knit three times), but I'm sure having fun trying them out. As a matter of fact, I just picked up two more this week at work. We carry several patterns by some very talented indi-designers who I've gotten to know through the Ravelry Designers forum and it was really nice to see their patterns in the shop and support them. This week I picked up the Sock Yarn Sweater from Hannah Fettig, and the Button Front Baby Pullover from Knitting Pure and Simple. I love both of these designers for very different reasons. Hannah's design appeal to me because of their classic shapes that look amazing on a baby, and Knitting Pure and Simple patterns are really fast, really simple, and easy to customize to my own tastes.
I just finished a baby sweater today for my amazing test-knitter Daisy, and now a former co-worker and old friend just had her first baby today! I've already found a pattern that I think will be cute on this little guy. I love trying to match the pattern to the parent's personalities and I think this one will do nicely. Although I haven't seen this person in years, she was a great friend to me when I really need one, and she did my make-up for my wedding. I think making me beautiful on my most important day qualifies her for a hand knit, lol.
